Chickens at six months
I’m not totally sure that Silver is laying yet. We have not gotten 5 eggs in one day, but the shortening daylight may have something to do with that. I have not seen her in the nest box and when someone is buk-buking up in the hen house she is down below.
We have been getting some neat looking eggs that are light brown with white speckles. They could be from her but they are a little bit bigger than I would think from a new layer.
All of the socializing with the chickens has been fun, but I have Ziggy (the Barred Rock) jumping on me and sqwacking in my ear until I give her treats when I go down there to clean up and gather the eggs.
The girls had been sleeping on the corner roost that I put up outside of the hen house. With the cooler nights they have been roosting in the upper rafters. They get all of the wind blocked up there and no chance of any rain on the sides like where they were before. I had been wondering if they would move to a dryer, less drafty place.
