It’s an egg!!!
Our first egg - the proverbial ‘golden’ egg.
Complements of our five month old Barred Rock Ziggy. She is also our most friendly chicken. It was a little more cute when she could only jump on my shoulder when I bent over. In the last couple of weeks she surprised me by jumping up on me while I was standing up. She then squawks loudly until I offer up more treats.
Lady’s in waiting:
Rhode Island Red
Ginger, our RIR, is a serious snacking chicken. If I step outside or if she even hears my voice, she starts her chickeny yelling. I can’t even call it squawking. It sounds more like someone has her pinned and is trying to hurt her. Going into the coop with here, I keep an eye on my hands. She can jump past my waist and knows what the cups and bowls that I bring in there mean. Her comb is not quite as big as:
Black Sex Link 5 months
Foxy’s comb. I am betting on her for the next egg.
Easter Egger 5 month
It’s harder to tell with these chickens, since they don’t have much of a comb. Polly’s is no where near as big as the rooster’s comb was at 3 months so I don’t think that she will be up to bat soon. I’m hoping though since she should laying green eggs.
Silver Laced Wyandotte 5 month
I think that Silver is low chicken on the totem pole. She started getting wattles at about three weeks and I was sure that she was a he, but it seems that with this breed that can happen.
